Topher James was faced with a difficult decision around 2007. Choose a stable corporate job, move up the ladder and risk losing all of his passion for art or choose a much more difficult path of being a professional musician. Easy to look back and say it was the right decision, but the path was not an easy one. A difficult decision to turn away from mainstream stability, but Topher’s goal was to truly explore what it would be like not only to have music as a job, but as a way of life. With a common thread in the music he loved – a captivating melody, powerful emotional depth, and soulful essence – he is inspired by legendary artists like Sam Cooke and Donny Hathaway, as well as contemporary R&B and Gospel inspired talents such as Emily King, Leon Bridges, Yebba, Alicia Keys, and more.

Testing Floor employ strong melodies, lush harmonies, and seasoned musicianship to create a vibe that is playful yet precise, and an atmosphere that soothes the spirit. Comprised of Columbus music scene veterans Liz Fisher (The Cordial Sins; Devi and Liz) and Phil Cogley (The Saturday Giant; Minnows; Sgt. Peppercorn’s Marathon), the duo perform stripped-down arrangements of pop and rock classics from the 1950s through the current era—and have plans to develop original material as well. Current repertoire includes: A.A. Bondy, Beach House, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Bombay Bicycle Club, Bonnie Raitt, Bright Eyes, Deftones, Dinosaur Pile-Up, Elton John, The Everly Brothers, Fugazi, George Harrison, The Hollies, Iron & Wine, Japanese Breakfast, Jay Som, M. Ward, Mitski, Modest Mouse, Momma, Monsters of Folk, My Morning Jacket, PJ Harvey, Queens of the Stone Age, Sharon Van Etten, Stone Temple Pilots, The Traveling Wilburys, Turnstile, Yo La Tengo, You Won’t, Youth Lagoon This show will take place in I Like It Like That. Born and bred in Ohio, Lily Bloom takes a modern spin on a classic instrument, creating her own brand of midwestern jazz pop accented by the harp, soulful vocals, and honest and vulnerable lyrics. Outside of her original music, Lily performs pop, Motown, jazz and blues.
